Businesses, especially Dental practices are always looking for ways to become more involved in the community.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans consume about 24 pounds (10.9 kg) of candy a year and most of that is believed to be at Halloween. As dental professionals I know we all find this very concerning. Did you know there is a program devoted solely to promoting dental health while helping the US Troops at the same time? The program is called the Halloween Candy Buy Back Program. The win/win is that you market your practice, promote dental health and provide the feeling of “home” to the troops overseas.
How does the Halloween Candy Buy Back Program Work?
- Pick a date and time (usually 2-3 hours) to “buy back” kid’s candy
- Promote the event (utilize the power of social media, post a banner near your practice sign, notify the local newspaper, send out a press release)
- “Buy” with cash ($1 per pound) or get creative and partner up with local businesses for gift cards, goodie bags, or raffle off a big prize (give 1 ticket per pound of candy). Don’t forget to get parent’s contact information so you can send them a “thank you” or invite them to join your practice.
- Make sure you have a camera available as you’ll want to take lots of pictures to post on your website & Facebook page.
You’ll have peace of mind knowing you’re making kids, parents and members of the military smile while subtly promoting your practice! You can really make this a fun event and keep the members of the community looking forward to it year after year.
